Tips to create more joy and peace in your home

Last weekend, I was knee keep in Spring cleaning as I am a huge fan of decluttering. Once I am done, I feel lighter and brighter because I only keep items that make me happy, and I use during each season.

Here are some easy tips I use to create more joy and peace in my apartment :

Inspiring words & images

Words can be powerfully positive. They can motivate and be helpful reminders of qualities that induce feel-good energy. This is also true for images. Having a photograph or work of art that inspires you is a wonderful thing to look at on a daily basis. I have two warm candle warmers in each bathroom that read: “live, love, laugh”

Be mindful of color

Much research on color psychology has proven that it can affect your mood. Specific colors produce feelings of well-being and happiness over others. Keep this in mind when selecting wall paint or color palettes for your space. I use gray for calm and all white for peace and serenity.

Bring a green friend home

Based on several scientific studies having a plant at home has some of the following benefits:

Lower blood pressure
Increase attentiveness
Improve well-being
Improve perceptions of the space
Lower levels of anxiety during recovery from surgery

Indoor, potted plants are good for our mental well-being, as well as our lungs. If you are scared of killing your plant due to lack of water, buy a cactus.

Start your day off right and make your bed

It might be a small accomplishment, but it sets the tone for the entire day. Perhaps no one has extolled this virtue of making the bed each morning as well as Naval Admiral William McRaven, the commander of U.S. Special Operations. In a 2014 commencement speech at University of Texas at Austin, Admiral McRaven said:

“If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another.

By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter.”

Let the sunshine in

Sunshine triggers feelings of euphoria because sunlight produces serotonin. Studies show that higher levels of serotonin correlate with better mood and feelings of satisfaction, calmness, and lower levels link to depression and anxiety. (Many antidepressants work by boosting levels of serotonin among brain neurons.)

Sending lots of sunshine and joy vibes!  💋

Great advices, I intend to follow all of them once I have my own home in Montreal!! MY current room is a bit in the dark, I don’t have a big window and it doesn’t even face the sun which sucks!!

🙈 Those rooms are the worst. I used to live in the back of my building, and it was so depressing because the lack of light. 🙏🏼 Montreal will bring much new happy beginnings. 🍀❤️💋

Great post!! I always make my bed right after breakfast. It seems so insignificant but it does help to start your day. I also love plants, mainly a cactus or other plants that don’t need too much care as I am not the best at taking care of them 😀

Girl your whole blog is amazing! This post is so true and you’ve mentioned things that I try and remind myself of too! Such as keeping a house plant (it’s amazing how much my house plants improved my mood and made be happier & calmer!) and also making your bed in the morning to start your day right, so true! xo

😉😍 decluttering is my favorite task to do in Spring. Good, happy you have beautiful sun ☀️ gracing you with its presence. xx

*gasp* a cactus!!! Of course!! I’m still concerned my plants don’t get enough sunlight, which is probably why they’re dying.. that and the WiFi placement is killing them too but I can’t put them any other place 😭 I need to move my furniture around again
