We all know there are plenty of fish in the sea when dating, but this new dating trend will leave you wondering if you are being baited and caught in someone’s fishing expedition.
According to Elite Daily, fishing is when someone sends out tons of messages to different people (or fish) to see who is interested in hooking up, then wait to see who responds.
Once they see who takes the bait, they choose the ones they like the look of best and ignore the rest – essentially throwing them back into the pond.
So if you’ve matched with someone and they’ve not responded, this could be the brutal reason why. It’s a grim reminder that dating is a bit of a numbers game and that matches are almost definitely flirting with other people too.
EliteDaily collected accounts of serial fishers, and there are some clear signs there that you are being fished. Here’s what to watch out for:
The classic uncreative way to reach out to a girl “Hey there, you up?”
If you receive a generic message along the lines of “hey, what are you up to” late at night – there’s a chance this could have been copied and pasted as well as sent to several contacts by someone who wants to keep their options open.
If you do reply to someone’s message then they never respond to you, there’s a high chance another fish got in there first.
Fishers, don’t discriminate and stop at the majority of their online dating matches they go a step further, and reach out to their friends, exes, past flings and wait to see who among them might be willing to hook up.
The same goes for only receiving messages at certain times – if they want to know what your plans are on a Thursday night, they aren’t so excited about you they can’t wait until lunchtime to chat to you.
Note to the wise is to avoid a late night text, or a generic message that appears to be a quick hook up. This small act will surely bring you closer to finding the love of your life.
