Beauty products that cause acne

Happy Monday!

I hope you all had an awesome weekend.

Did you know that a few ingredients in your everyday makeup can do more harm than good — especially for sensitive, acne-prone skin?

See below the culprits of those pesky pimples:

Coconut Oil

If you think coconut oil is the bee’s knees of oils for skin, think again. It’s considered to be highly comedogenic, which means it can easily block or clog your pores. It’s fine to use on parts of your body that don’t regularly breakout, like dry heels and elbows, but try to cut it out of your face routine.

Perfumes

We all have our favorite scent in our primer or lotion, but the smell might not be as appealing to your skin. Added perfumes can dry out your skin, which can cause your breakouts to scar even further. It can also increase your skin’s sensitivity, leading to even more blemishes. Stick to unscented products and turn to a spritz of standard perfume if you want some added fragrance.

Alcohol

Many foundations are manufactured with alcohol as it helps the product set into your skin and lasts longer. However, alcohol is extremely drying and can cause the makeup to seep into your pores — eventually causing blackheads and whiteheads. So read the labels on beauty products before purchasing!

Isopropyl Isostearate

Not only does this ingredient sound like a chemical used to create a shuttle, but it also clogs your pores and turns your skin into a blemish breeding ground. Gross! It’s used to formulate a lot of face and eye makeup. So, again, be sure to read your labels for any ingredients you can’t pronounce.

Parabens

OK, so we know that parabens are harmful to your skin, but they’re actually illegal in other countries. It’s believed that parabens can actually mess with hormone levels, thus increasing your skin’s chances of breaking out.

These are only five ingredients, but they can be the key to unlocking some of your acne breakouts.

Sending clear skin vibes! 💋

Sometimes I just don’t understand why skin care brands use so much fragrance for their products. I mean we all love nice smells but if I’m putting something on my face, I don’t really need nice smell as skin is pretty sensitive to it. This is so helpful, love this post. xx

I don’t use straight coconut oil on my face ever, only my hair as mask every once in a while though I haven’t done it in a long time anyway this is very good to know I’ll be sure to start looking into ingredients in my skincare products as well. I feel that now that I’m CF, the next logical step is to look into the ingredients themselves.
