Your money matters when deciding which beauty creams to save, or splurge. For those of you that know me personally, you know I have tried everything from La Mer to Kanebo, but now that I know better I refuse to pay more than $20.00 for any beauty product.
You are buying intangibles, such as brand equity, marketing dollars, advertising budgets, patents, and licenses are all part of the bottom line for every single personal care product — drugstore or prestige.
So what exactly are you paying for when you buy a luxe skin cream? A lot of what is spent in creams, cleansers, serums, toners, and eye creams is on packaging and advertising. The cost can also be determined by the contents of the cream. Some ingredients can be very exotic and expensive or difficult to prepare,
Affordable creams like Cetaphil, as well as Neutrogena, CeraVe, and Oil of Olay, hydrate just fine, say dermatologists. Just be sure to apply the cream within three minutes of bathing or showering to trap the moisture under your skin.
If you have severe skin conditions like acne, rosacea, or loss of elasticity you should visit a dermatologist. They can prescribe stronger products, to treat acne like Retin A or creams with high concentrations of alpha hydroxyl acid, which exfoliate dead skin and trigger formation of new collagen and elastic fibers.
The most effective and least expensive way to ward off wrinkles is by using a moisturizing sunscreen with a sun-protection factor of at least 30 every day. That simple step can help prevent lines and dry skin in the first place.
In the end, buying an expensive cream is like staying in a suite at the Ritz Carlton vs. staying at a Courtyard Marriot. The result is the same a room with a bed.

Great post! Sometimes I love to spend money on expensive beauty products. But most of my products are cheaper ones. And they work fine, too. You only have to test which one is comftable for your skin 😉

Thank you this was great. I have never spent much on makeup or products period. My mother used a inexpensive vitamin E cream on her face and her skin was lovely. Yes to sunscreen.
