While we sleep there is an internal skin clock, yes, that’s how smart your body functions, meaning there are very exciting things happening each night when you’re snoozing.  Beautiful glowing skin is earned, and following healthy habits today will help you age gracefully.  So, get your skin prepared before you say sweet dreams!

Three important skin activities happen at night:

1. DNA Repair

2. Cellular Energy Production

3. Cellular Detox

Cells get repaired, energy gets replenished, and the detox enzymes go to work. These repair activities happen during the day too, but they peak at night when there is increased blood flow to the skin. (The increased blood flow is due to the nervous system switching from the sympathetic system to the parasympathetic system at night.)

Getting enough sleep is important because you need this time to repair your skin.

It is equally important to get your sleep on a regular schedule. Your internal body clock follows a roughly 24-hour cycle. So if you go to bed at very different times every night, it throws off your clock.

Here are some simple sleeping hacks for beauty:

Wash your face, I know you read this every day, but it’s important to keep acne at bay

Invest in a silk pillow case as it does not pull your face creating wrinkles.  It is best to sleep with white sheets.  The dyes in colored sheets irritate sensitive skin types

Hydrate, drink a glass of water before 90 minutes to avoid a late night visit to the bathroom

Three times a week apply an overnight mask.  I use Kiehls Cilantro and Orange Extract Pollutant mask.   It works overnight to pull out harmful toxins while you sleep.

Avoid salty foods before bed,  When you eat salty foods before bed, your body becomes dehydrated. Your body will start looking for water and start collecting natural fluids around the eyes along with other places. This can make your eyes look puffy when you wake up, not sexy!

Wear a ponytail or bun.  Keep your hair away from your face to avoid breakouts due to the oil and hair care products. However, don’t pull your hair to tight in a bun or ponytail. This can cause hair breakage. Put it in a high and loose ponytail.

Use a Jade Roller to assist blood circulation and skin tone. It improves the elasticity of the skin as well as promotes the lymphatic drainage. The Jade Roller can also tighten pores since the jade remains cold even when in direct contact with the skin, especially if you keep it in the freezer.  It can tone your face of its ability to dispel fluid, boost circulation, improve elasticity, and promote cell turnover for a brighter, healthier look. You can roll it on your face while binge watching a series on Netflix. Don’t be alarmed! It only takes 5 minutes, or less three times a week.
