Labor day weekend travel ideas within the northeast

I am writing this post with a heavy heart as the delicious days of summer come to an end in two weeks.

For the brave weekenders ready to endure the travel gridlock, here’s a few places within the US – Northeast to enjoy and be merry:

Bar Harbor, Maine

Bar Harbor, Maine is such a unique and gorgeous place to visit.  As one of the first places in the country that sees the sunrise each morning, Acadia National park is a great place for early birds that like to hike.  You will be enchanted by the smell of fresh pine trees. Perhaps, this explains why Mrs. Astor and the Rockefeller’s would summer there away from the scorching and smelly heat of New York.

Martha's Vinyard
Martha’s Vinyard, MA

It’s 100 square miles, Martha’s Vineyard has six towns, (Aquinnah, Menemsha, Chillmark, Chappaquiddick, Edgartown, Bluffs, Oak Bluffs, Haven, Vinyard Haven, Tisbury, West Tisbury) each with its own proud history and unique character.  Since it is one of my favorite places to visit in the summer, I wrote a previous post on this charming town.  To find out more of where the hot spots are located click here

Nantucket-2-640x480
Nantucket, MA

Go carless for the weekend and hop on a ferry, Cape Air, or Blade to this majestic New England town.  Here’s a previous post link for all the “it places” to eat and retreat.

Hamptons, NY

I had to show some love to the Hamptons as it is a couple of hours away from me.  I could not resist to add it to this list.  No matter how you travel, it will be a challenge whether it’s restaurants being booked, major traffic, or Blade lounge full of coddled children behaving badly there’s no escaping the last-minute travel weekend congestion. Check out a previous post here for your hit list of fabulous spots.

So many wonderful places! Martha’s Vineyard was a surprise to see, because many years ago there was a TV program in Finnish TV about it.

Thank You for this lovely post.

    Happy weekend!
